Carol Hinch is Director of Sales & Marketing for Ballynahinch Castle in Connemara. Heading into her 20th year working for this luxury castle hotel, her enthusiasm is as strong today as when she started. The continual investment in the hotel ensures there is always something new to promote.
Q 1- How does your normal day begin?
I live in Galway city so my typical day beings with an early alarm, breakfast, and a drive to Ballynahinch, which is just over 1 hour. Once I leave the city the drive is scenic, and I have my day planned out by the time I arrive at the desk.
Q 2- What are your biggest daily challenges?
Not getting to tick all the items on my list as things pop up throughout the day from last-minute requests from media, a regular guest who wants to say hi, an urgent quotation or during normal times, an unplanned site inspection.
Q3- What do you love most about your job?
There are so many elements I love; that no two days are ever the same, the opportunity to travel internationally promoting such a beautiful hotel and area and the feedback from our guests is another great reward.
Q 4- What do you do to relax?
There is nothing better than being at home with my fiancé, enjoying his cooking with a glass of wine and planning my next trip away, with or without him! I try to catch up with friends & family as much as I can. I also love walking and am fortunate to have so many scenic walking routes close to home. I also enjoy reading, especially crime novels.
Q 5-Favourite staycation destination in Ireland and why?
Anywhere on the Wild Atlantic Way, living in Galway is great as we have it all on our doorstep. With so many day trip options to longer breaks, the choices are endless.
Q 6-Favourite holiday destination worldwide?
Having enjoyed lots of international travel we love to go back to Spain; Girona & Santander are two favourites, the food & wine, culture & history and the weather is an added bonus. My fiancé Noel is an archaeologist, so we always have a list of historic sites to visit on our trips.
Q 7-Favourite Business motto?
I think this works for all aspects of life – “When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.”
Q 8. Advice for young business entrepreneurs:
Your career should be enjoyable, you will be working for a long time so do something you love and the time will fly by.
