“A day in the life of” Eoin Heverin MD of Foodie Save

What is Foodie Save, what does it do?

Foodie Save is a platform that allows food retailers to sell their good quality surplus food to members of the public (end users).

Our platform earns the food retailers a new revenue stream, reduces refuse costs and improves their CSR. Foodie Save provides great value for money for the end-users by allowing them to buy this food at a discounted rate. It also enables food retailers and end-users to make a direct and positive impact on the environment by reducing food waste.

Q 1- How does your normal day begin?

I get up at 5.30 am and go for a run or do gym work, follow that by breakfast and shower (cold shower for the last 30 seconds, to get the blood flowing! Haha),  Arrive in the office and schedule out and assign the day’s tasks.

Q 2- What are your biggest daily challenges?

The challenges vary from day to day, but consistency in effort, planning and action is something that I strive for.

Q3- What do you love most about your job?

The answer would be in relation to the previous question; “ I love the challenge”. I have a vision for our company and enjoy setting goals and targets to achieve those visions and then celebrating those goals when they are reached, for me that brings joy to my work.

Q 4- What do you do to relax?

Not enough at the moment. We launched our company in August of this year and we are putting long hours into the start-up phase. But outside of that, I am a big sports fan, so anything rugby or Gaa I love, not hugely relaxing I know, But it works for me!

Q 5-Favourite staycation destination in Ireland and why?

That is an extremely tough one as Ireland has so many amazing destinations. Connemara is wonderful for the craic and the hikes. Killarney for the same reasons. I really could list so many fantastic Irish locations. Give me anywhere along the Wild Atlantic way and I’d be happy.

Q 6-Favourite holiday destination worldwide?

Love New York – fantastic buzz and atmosphere. Thailand is a special place as well, the people, culture and scenery are truly wonderful.

Q 7-Favourite Business motto?

Look after the sales and the rest will follow, but in order to get the sales, set out your strategy and implement it.

Q 8. Advice for young business entrepreneurs

Make sure there is a demand for your product or service before you put any money into your business. This is very easy and cheap to do – draw up some slides or put a presentation together and get out there and talk to your potential customers/clients. You will gain great insight into your future business by doing this and importantly it could save you a lot of money from your learnings.
