“A day in the life of” Geraldine Enright, Director of the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience

Geraldine Enright is the Director of the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience, Ireland’s most visited natural attraction, a signature point on the Wild Atlantic Way and a main Geosite in the UNESCO Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark.   She has 15 years’ experience working at the world-famous and multi-award winning site that attracted 1.6million visitors in 2019. Her role is to operate,  manage and guide the future direction of the visitor attraction on behalf of Clare County Council.

Q 1- How does your normal day begin?

Normally it’s up and out for a day of meetings, calls and correspondence depending on what’s happening. Now, after baking brown bread for the family and until restrictions ease,  it’s straight to the home office and it’s all happening virtually.

Q 2- What are your biggest daily challenges?

Right now, tourism and hospitality businesses are really suffering huge losses in so many ways of being unable to trade. The challenge is surviving through this crisis, finding ways of adapting, changing elements of what we do and innovating to respond to the changing environment.

Q3- What do you love most about your job?

I’ve always been passionate about travel and tourism and working with people. The Cliffs of Moher is a spectacular iconic place of beauty and it gives me great satisfaction as a proud Clare native, to lead a successful project and team, to generate employment locally and deliver wider economic benefit to Co. Clare.   I’m very lucky to be in a position to shape the current visitor experience and influence the sustainable future of the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience. The people who work at the Cliffs are passionate about bringing the place to life and that’s where the magic happens for me, the delivery of holistic authentic world-class experiences.

Q 4- What do you do to relax?

Spending time with my family, cooking, walking and any activity that involves the outdoors.

Q 5-Favourite staycation destination in Ireland and why?

Doonbeg Co. Clare, Doughmore beach is so fabulous in the evening, it’s like heaven on earth.

Q 6-Favourite holiday destination worldwide?

A coastal holiday in Ireland with family. Pre-kids, skiing in the Alps.

Q 7-Favourite Business motto?

Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

Q 8. Advice for young business entrepreneurs

“Choose something that you both love and are good at.”
