“A day in the life of” interview with Paula Carroll, Director of Sales & Marketing at Ashford Castle

It is an absolute privilege to be Director of Sales and Marketing at the legendary Ashford Castle, for over 25 years. I am proud to represent the wonderful Ashford family. My role is to connect our guests, clients and travel advisors with the operational team, in a smooth and efficient manner to ensure that each guest has a truly memorable experience. Our team are warm, compassionate, caring, genuine and enthusiastic about delivering and living the Red Carnation ethos.

Q 1- How does your normal day begin?

If I am not travelling abroad, it usually starts with a drive from the beautiful Galway Bay where I live, to the even more beautiful Ashford Castle where my office is…………….however, during the pandemic, I’ve been working from home like countless others!

Q 2- What are your biggest daily challenges?

To ensure I try to stay calm and focused on what we need to achieve every day

Q3- What do you love most about your job?

As the longest-serving Director of Sales/Marketing in the country, I actually do love my job!  There are not too many people who can say that and I feel very  grateful and fortunate for having had three wonderful and inspiring employers in 40 years


Q 4- What do you do to relax?

Living on the Wild Atlantic Way provides the most amazing walks through forests and along Galway Bay, – so every day it’s vital I walk at least an hour! I also love reading books, alternating between fiction and autobiographies, but my passion is my job and the extraordinary people I’m privileged to work with

Q 5-Favourite staycation destination in Ireland and why?

Anywhere on the Wild Atlantic Way  – but particularly from Donegal to  Galway – the raw savage beauty on the coastlines of these counties is something everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.

Q 6-Favourite holiday destination worldwide?

Thanks to my job, I have been privileged to have visited 38 countries and 27 States – all offering their own unique experience and charm

Develop an “Attitude of Gratitude” saying thanks to everyone you meet for everything they do for you
