Go Wild magazine had the pleasure of chatting with Mark O Shaughnessy Operations Manager at the world-famous Cliffs of Moher
Q 1- How does your normal day begin? –
With a lot of walking! After opening the visitor centre, it’s usually a full walk of the site to check everything is up and running and ready for the day. With a 14-acre site, there is a lot of ground to cover.
Q 2- What are your biggest daily challenges? 30 words
Managing the volumes of people visiting the Cliffs. It varies by month and even the times of the day so ensuring there are staff in the right place, at the right time so all visitors have a great time regardless of when they visit.
Q3- What do you love most about your job?
The variety! It’s a mix of indoors and outdoors, its active and varied, from people management, to customer service to traffic management and conservation, the buzz of it all is fantastic and the days just fly!
Q 4- What do you do to relax?
I am a big DIY fan so usually have some project going at home. Also, I love cooking, especially desserts, I have a very sweet tooth!
Q 5-Favourite staycation destination in Ireland and why?
Too many to choose from but for me, it must have a mix of good nightlife and places to see and a bit of the great outdoors so probably Galway or Killarney come to mind.
Q 6-Favourite holiday destination worldwide?
I have never done it but want to do Route 66 in the US. In an open-top car of course!
Q 7-Favourite Business motto?
Ronseal… “It does exactly what it says on the tin!”. If you say you will do something… you should!
Q 8. Advice for young business entrepreneurs
There will always be ups and downs in your career but make sure you are constantly learning from it all.
