Margaret Rose Cunningham, chosen as one of the Artists to celebrate 30 years ot the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith, London

Margaret Rose Cunningham, a native of Glencolmcille, Co. Donegal, is delighted to have been chosen as one of the Artists to celebrate 30 years ot the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith, London. The exhibition opens on the 25th of September and will continue until the 12th of January.
The theme of this exhibition of Irish Artists is ‘Iomha’, which means Journey, it’s very fitting as Margaret’s Handwoven tapestry has taken her a journey of 26 years to complete, and she completed it specially for the exhibition.
Margaret’s tapestry is a tribute to those who have walked the St. Colmcille pilgrimage for centuries on the 9th of June in daylight and also starting at midnight. She is so grateful for her friend Mary Frazho, who entered her into the exhibition and all the kind support of family and friends past and present which encouraged her to finish it.
Margaret was one of the students at the pioneering Tapestry school Taipeis Gael, which trained 6 young local people in the art of tapestry weaving, spinning and much more back in 1993, located in Oideas Gael,Glencolmcille and overseen by Monica De Bath, Liam O’Cuinneagáin and many more.
Margaret has been managing the Glencolmcille Folk Village for 21 years now, but looks forward to spending more time designing and weaving tapestries in the future.
She now has a small private studio, which will make things easier to complete.
