Ireland news- EcoTrail Wicklow bigger and better with the support of Fáilte Ireland

EcoTrail Wicklow has been successful in securing the support of Failte Ireland for this year’s edition of the popular trail Running Race.  The objective of the support is to grow the event into a weekend experience and attract more overseas visitors.

Starting and finishing at Bray Seafront, EcoTrail Wicklow will take place on September the 24th offering four different races (19k, 30k, 45k and 80k), through some of Wicklow’s most scenic locations.

Orla Carroll, Director of Product Development at Fáilte Ireland said “Fáilte Ireland is pleased to support the EcoTrail Wicklow race and would like to wish all athletes the best of luck for race day on 24th September. Investing in participative festivals like this not only attracts competitors from around Ireland and overseas, it also encourages families and supporters to stay and explore the local area, which in turn is beneficial for local businesses and drives the local economy. These events also showcase the fantastic outdoor activity offering we have in Ireland, and are hugely important as we drive recovery across the tourism sector”

Fred Verdier, Tourism Officer at Wicklow County Council says: “We’re absolutely delighted to get Failte Ireland’s support and we are busy planning for the event in September.  The agenda is not fully defined yet, but expect activities such as a bus tour to Glendalough to overseas visitors on Friday, live broadcast of the race on a big screen on Bray Seafront, a food fair with Wicklow Naturally on Sunday, and more.”

Brian Gleeson, Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council adds: “EcoTrail Wicklow offers a fantastic opportunity to showcase Wicklow as a fantastic playground for outdoor activities.   With Failte Ireland’s backing, our event and destination will reach a larger audience both in Ireland and abroad.”

Trail Running has enjoyed tremendous growth over the past decade, with many people of all ages engaging in this sport as a mean to get in shape in the outdoors.  There are many trail running events throughout the globe, attracting visitors looking to discover new locations and experiences.  Destination Ireland and especially Wicklow are ideal for the sport with a strong network of trails to enjoy, stunning sceneries and ideal climate year-round.
