Escape to the Edge of the World: New Mayo Coast Island-Hopping Experience Launches This Autumn

  • New two-night experience invites visitors to explore Inishturk and Clare Island, Co. Mayo
  • Offering designed by locals to showcase the best of island life, food, culture and heritage
  • All-inclusive package includes meals, activities, ferry transport and accommodation

A brand-new and unforgettable adventure is launching off the Mayo coast this September, inviting visitors to explore two of Ireland’s most captivating islands, Inishturk and Clare Island, through a unique and fully immersive island-hopping experience.

The new offering, called Atlantic Island Escapes, features an exclusive two-night all-inclusive adventure designed by locals and crafted to showcase the very best of island life, food, culture and heritage. With limited availability, the three September packages present a rare opportunity to dive deep into the authentic spirit of the islands.

Guests will enjoy highlights such as lobster fishing, sea swimming on Tránaun Beach, guided tours of Grace O’Malley’s castle, private whiskey tastings, artisan weaving sessions, and farm-to-fork dining all led by the people who call these islands home.

Local fisherman Jack Heanue proudly displays two freshly caught lobsters on Inishturk Island, highlighting the island’s deep-rooted tradition of lobster and cray fishing. These prized catches supply restaurants throughout the region and, most importantly, the island community centre’s restaurant—where visitors can enjoy this fresh, sea-to-table delicacy. Speaking about the new initiative, Anna Deegan, Island Tour Agent coordinating the experience said:

“This is not just a trip, it’s an experience curated by the islanders themselves. We want visitors to feel like part of the community and to take away something deeper than just photos.”

With meals, activities, ferry transport, and accommodation all included, this package offers incredible value and direct support for the local island economies. This initiative is part of a wider commitment to sustainable tourism, with an emphasis on overnight stays, local food sourcing, eco-friendly practices, and community benefit.

This pilot programme is proudly supported by Fáilte Ireland as part of the implementation of the Clew Bay Destination Experience Development Plan, aimed at strengthening and promoting sustainable tourism across the region.
