” A day in the life of” Grainne Kelliher, CEO Airfield Estate, a charitable trust with a mission to ‘inspire and enable people to make better food choices

Q 1- How does your normal day begin?

The alarm goes off at 6.10 so I can breakfast and plan my day in peace before the rest of the house rises. 7mins of core exercises while the toaster and kettle do their thing.  I try to get to the office before 8, map out the day, list the priorities, check emails and before I get stuck into desk work, I like to walk around the grounds of the estate, meet casually with some of the team, check-in with the animals and identify anything urgent that needs to be addressed before the visitors arrive.

Q 2- What are your biggest daily challenges?

Making sure I set aside some time for long term planning and trying to stick to the priority list I scribble down each morning. I try not to let a busy operation take control of the day.

Q3- What do you love most about your job?

I have the best of both worlds really, I live in the city and work on a farm, how cool is that? Airfields mission is to inspire and enable people to make food choices that are better for people, planet and pocket, I can’t think of anything better to be spending my time on!

Q 4- What do you do to relax?

Relaxing is not a priority for me at the moment as there is so much I want to do during my time on this planet. I enjoy outdoor activities, sharing great food with family & friends and cooking and art are a great way for me to switch off.

Q 5-Favourite staycation destination in Ireland and why?

I’m from Dingle so normally I head there at every opportunity to feed body, mind and soul. The pace of place and people in Dingle is like nowhere else in the world and I always leave the place both inspired and grounded.

Q 6-Favourite holiday destination worldwide?

I married a Frenchman and an only child so we tend to holiday in Burgundy, France where he is from. No complaints there as I love all things French, from the language to the culture and everything in between.

Q 7-Favourite Business motto?

Know your strengths and weaknesses and always surround yourself with better than yourself.

Q 8. Advice for young business entrepreneurs

Fortune favours the brave, be confident, go with what you believe in and never trade your values.

Always be respectful of people and the planet, it’s non-negotiable!
