“A day in the life of” James Ring, CEO Ingenium

James is an environmental chemist by profession and has worked for over 15 years in various leadership and executive management roles in the private, public and not for profit sectors.

Q 1- How does your normal day begin?

I’m not a morning person, so I get up and ease my way into it, reading the news, cup of tea, cornflakes etc, nothing dramatic.

Q 2- What are your biggest daily challenges?

Just making sure everyone on the team is focused on high quality delivery, and more especially in these times where I have to ensure there is balance between work and down time for the team

Q3- What do you love most about your job?

Outside of the great team I have, it is Variety. Every client has different needs and issues and you have to try help them solve often quite complex problems. It is a great feeling to see clients grow and progress I must say

Q 4- What do you do to relax?

I play a lot of football, although sadly the competitive days are done, I play with a band, and I read all the time, often on the most random subjects.

Q 5-Favourite staycation destination in Ireland and why?

Castle Gregory, Co Kerry…if you want to prove the existence of God, go there, it is heaven. That part of the world has everything you need for a great holiday. Honourable mention to Kilkee because I am from Limerick of course.

Q 6-Favourite holiday destination worldwide?

Anywhere in Italy, what a place, culture, scenery, food, weather….class. Honourable mention to London and San Francisco, great memories of happy carefree times.

Q 7-Favourite Business motto?

I live by the mantra “realism over optimism”. I have little time for those who promise the sun moon and stars, I can’t stand bull, just talk straight, please.

Q 8. Advice for young business entrepreneurs

Things will get tough, you will want to quit…but if you believe in what you are doing, keep going, it’s all about resilience and a bit of luck.
