Five international journalists – representing a range of print publications and a radio station with a combined reach of more than 2.6 million – have been visiting Northern Ireland, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Tourism NI.

The journalists – from the United States, Great Britain, France, Germany and Austria – have been immersing themselves in Belfast’s thriving music scene, with a special focus on one of the city’s legendary sons, Van Morrison.

Timed to coincide with Van Morrison’s 80th birthday and a special celebratory concert, the journalists’ visit saw them finding out more about the places in Belfast that inspired Van’s incredible music career, including Hyndford Street where he grew up and The Hollow which features in the hit song Brown Eyed Girl. Scott’s Jazz Club, a visit to Titanic Quarter and Belfast Traditional Music Trail also featured on the itinerary, as well as key locations in County Down – reminiscent of the singer’s childhood trips – including Coney Island, Downpatrick, Strangford Lough, Killyleagh and Ardglass.

Elmagh Killeen, Tourism Ireland’s Head of Brand and Marketing Communications, said: “We’re delighted these influential international journalists have experienced Belfast’s dynamic music scene first-hand and discovered how this city helped shape one of its most iconic artists, Van Morrison. Northern Ireland is a fantastic place for music fans – from intimate gigs to open-air festivals and all topped off with our warm hospitality. The articles and broadcasts created by these journalists are sure to inspire global audiences to put Belfast and Northern Ireland on their ‘must visit’ list.”
