Ireland News- Cutting Edge Craft by Waterford at Kilkenny Design

Experience the magic of high-craftmanship at Kilkenny Design, Nassau Street, as Master Craftsman Tom Power of Waterford showcases the art of crystal craft with live cutting demonstrations in store on Friday 3rd and 9th of September, from 12 pm – 2 pm each day.

Kilkenny, the home of Irish design, has a long-standing relationship with Waterford, and this month will showcase the exclusive new collections from the Irish crystal makers. Waterford’s Aran Drinkware and The Ocean Collection will be showcased exclusively in the Kilkenny flagship store on Nassau Street, Dublin 2.

Aran Drinkware is a modern collection of drinkware to complement the Aran interiors collection that takes inspiration from iconic Aran knits found on the Aran Islands, off the West Coast of Ireland. These patterns and stitches are associated with sentiments of good fortune for fishermen and hold symbolic meanings such as wealth, success, and the stages of life.

The new Mastercraft Aran Drinkware Collection is comprised of six contemporary drinkware shapes sold in sets of 2 – Flutes, Red Wine, White Wine, Highball, Tumblers, and a striking ice bucket to complement the existing interior pieces.

The Ocean Collection’s inspiration stems from the Atlantic Ocean’s depths and the creatures it contains around the Irish coastline. Challenging the creative and technical mastery of the Waterford artisans, the stunning collection is brought to life with fascinating forms, textures, movement, and details mimicking the ebb and flow of the ocean.

The unique elements of the collection are elegantly translated across different offerings, such as sculptures, interiors, and drinkware items. The depth of skill and care given to each piece can be seen in the time it takes to create them. The exquisite Ocean Giants sculpture takes 90 hours to complete.

Customers visiting the Nassau Street store this month can experience the skill first-hand as Waterford Master craftsman Tom Power demonstrates the craft in person.

Tom Power is participating in Kilkenny Design’s Meet The Maker series, which is taking place until the end of September. Every Friday from 12 pm to 2pm, three Irish makers will showcase their collection in store in celebration of the best of Irish design.
