“A day in the life of” Approved and award-winning VA Kelly Mc Gookin

I’m Kelly and I’m a gin-loving Harry Potter fanatic! I have been freelancing for years but decided to make it an official business in May 2020 when I was furloughed – it’s been a crazy journey and I’ve loved every minute of it (I even won an award last year!!).
Q1 -How does your normal day begin
I am NOT a morning person so I wake just before 08:30 am, head downstairs to boil the kettle & feed and let Lacey out (my gorgeous rescue dog!), then I head upstairs to start my day just before 9 am😊
Q2 -What are your biggest daily challenges
I’d say my biggest daily challenge is making sure I actually take a break. I tell other people it’s so important to take breaks but yet I could sit for hours working without moving a muscle!
Q3 -What do you love most about your job?
The fact that I’m doing what I love every day (which is being a complete admin & organisation nerd). I also love how it’s all on my own terms.
Q4 -What do you do to relax?
I have good strength training at the gym and occasionally meditate with my crystals (I’m a witch, didn’t you know?! Haha). I also love lying up on the sofa watching Netflix with my partner and pup.
Q5 -Favourite staycation destination in Ireland and why?
It has to be between either Finn Lough or the Galgorm. Finn Lough is like a magical forest retreat (it’s SO different from staying in a hotel!) and the Galgorm is just pure luxury.
Q6 -Favourite holiday destination worldwide?
Orlando, Florida without a doubt. Not just for the theme parks either – the people and the food are 10/10. The weather is also superb (I’m a sun lover! Can’t stand the cold!).
Q7 – Favourite Business motto?
I learned this from one of my clients recently and I love it. It’s “you are what you do” – so true! I’m a big believer in manifestation and the law of attraction so always try to lead with love in everything I say & do.
Q8 – Advice for young business entrepreneurs
Have a plan before you launch. Join lots of local support groups and network network network! Always add value where you can and BE YOURSELF.
