Six journalists from Germany and Austria – representing the German national radio station Deutschlandfunk and various print and online publications – have been exploring Ireland and our musical hotspots, as guests of Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland.

The journalists, who have a combined audience of around 2.5 million, have been following a bespoke itinerary showcasing some of the fantastic musical experiences that Ireland has to offer. Their itinerary included a visit to Ireland’s oldest pub, Sean’s Bar in Athlone, as well as a music workshop with Burren Fiddle Holidays in Ennis, a visit to Doolin Music House, a guided walk in the Burren National Park and the Kilfenora Céilí Band Exhibition at The Burren Visitor Centre. They also enjoyed a bodhrán workshop with Michael Vignoles in Galway, a visit to Micil Distillery and a presentation about the history of the uilleann pipes at Na Píobairí Uilleann in Dublin. The group experienced great live sessions in Knox’s Pub in Ennis, Doolin Music House, Gus O’Connor’s Pub in Doolin and Tig Cóilí in Galway.

Nadine Lehmann, Tourism Ireland’s Manager in Germany, said: “We were delighted to invite this group of influential German and Austrian journalists to explore Ireland. There really is no substitute for being able to come here and experience what Ireland has to offer at first-hand. Through the articles and content they produce and share, the journalists will inspire their audiences to come and discover our rich musical heritage for themselves.”
