The Guinness Storehouse is set to launch These Walls this September, a multi-phase street art initiative to spotlight the streets of Dublin 8.
These Walls is both a celebration of artistic excellence and a platform for community engagement through Dublin 8 artist collaborations and partnerships with local institutions. It honours the area’s creative legacy while embracing its evolving identity. Founded and funded by the Guinness Storehouse in its landmark 25th year, These Walls is a collaborative partnership with Dublin City Council, the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) and The Digital Hub.
Launching on Culture Night 2025 with an immersive, artistic spectacle at the Guinness Storehouse, These Walls will unfold as a multi-phase project, with future phases rooted in further Dublin 8 partnerships and co-creation. Through this phased approach, the project will continue to grow in collaboration with the people and places that define Dublin 8.
Phase One of These Walls will see bold new public artwork unveiled along Thomas Street, created by artists Deirdre Breen and Owen de Forge. Crane Street and Market Street will also be transformed with works by artists Alice Rekab, Venus Patel, Thaís Muniz, and Farouk Alao, who were commissioned in collaboration with the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA). Each artist has created personal and meaningful site-responsive artwork inspired by their own connections to Dublin 8.
On Culture Night, audiences are invited to step into this landmark exhibition set within the Storehouse’s striking industrial setting and immerse themselves in an evocative portrait of Dublin 8 that explores memory and place through light, sound, and form. Deirdre Breen’s abstract compositions respond to the area’s evolving architecture and layered histories, while Owen de Forge’s figurative works capture the neighbourhood’s social life through playful characters and unconventional canvases. The exhibition is further enhanced by a specially commissioned soundscape by Saoirse Miller and Wastefellow, together with live contemporary dance by Rachel Ní Bhraonáin and Emily Kilkenny Roddy.
As a further celebration of the area, Dublin 8 Korean restaurant Space Jaru will have a pop up at the Guinness Storehouse with a limited edition, Guinness inspired menu. Guests can enjoy a complimentary Guinness or Guinness 00 while taking in the spectacular city skyline from the Gravity Bar.
Speaking about the launch of These Walls, Catherine Toolan, Managing Director, Diageo Irish Brand Homes, said, “At Guinness Storehouse, we are immensely proud to unveil These Walls, a campaign that reflects our commitment to creativity, inclusivity, and community. We are honoured to collaborate with the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), Dublin City Council, and The Digital Hub on this transformative project. Through These Walls, we invite everyone to see, hear, and experience Dublin 8 in fresh and inspiring ways.”
Annie Fletcher, Director, Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA), said, “At IMMA, we believe in the power of art to connect people, place, and possibility. As a museum rooted in Dublin 8, it is both a privilege and a responsibility to contribute to the cultural life of this neighbourhood. These Walls is a powerful example of what can happen when artists’ voices are brought into the everyday public realm, celebrating the layered histories, diversity, and vibrancy of this community while sparking new dialogue and imagination. We are delighted to collaborate with the Guinness Storehouse in partnership with Dublin City Council and the Digital Hub on this initiative, which aligns so strongly with our vision to bring art beyond the museum walls and into the heart of civic life.”
These Walls phase one artworks along Thomas St, Crane St and Market St will be unveiled in time for Culture Night on the 19th of September.
