200,000 TV viewers across Spain to learn about Ireland’s rich literary heritage ~

Around 200,000 Spaniards will tune into a cultural and literary TV programme called Página Dos (which means ‘Page Two’) next month and will hear about some of our literary greats. Filming for the 30-minute episode, which will air on Spain’s national TV station TVE, was supported by Tourism Ireland, Fáilte Ireland and Tourism NI. Thousands more will read content about Ireland on the programme’s social channels.

Viewers will see presenter Óscar López visit some of our major literary landmarks like Trinity College, Oscar Wilde House on Dublin’s Merrion Square and Seamus Heaney HomePlace in Bellaghy. Other places associated with our famous writers and literary heritage – including the National Library of Ireland, Sweny’s pharmacy (made famous in James Joyce’s Ulysses), Queen’s University and C.S. Lewis Square in Belfast – are also set to feature in the programme.

Susan Bolger, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Spain, said: “Tourism Ireland was delighted to invite the crew from Página Dos to film in Ireland. The episode will be seen by around 200,000 people across Spain, shining a spotlight on some of our rich heritage and top literary attractions for thousands of Spanish viewers. Content will also be viewed by thousands more on social media.

“Publicity and broadcasts like this are a key element of Tourism Ireland’s programme of activity to highlight Ireland and our rich literary heritage – here in Spain and in other markets around the world – inspiring potential visitors about the variety of experiences on offer on a holiday in Ireland.”
