THE GUINNESSSSS STOREHOUSE HOSTS GIANT SNAKE FOR ST. PATRICK’S FESTIVAL

The Guinness Storehouse takes John Gilroy’s artwork to new heights this St. Patrick’s Day

Inspired by a previously unreleased Gilroy illustration, the giant snake sits atop the Gravity Bar roof, visible throughout the Liberties in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day

Wednesday 13th March: The work of John Gilroy is an iconic part of the history of Guinness, but his original concept of a snake was never fully used – until now. Gilroy’s snake illustration concept was never completed or published and has been kept in the Guinness archives until this year. And this St Patrick’s weekend, the previously unreleased illustration has inspired a giant snake that will sit atop the Gravity Bar.  The snake is 6 metres tall, made with 150m of fabric and will tower over the Liberties and Dublin for the bank holiday weekend. Gilroy’s impact and legacy will be evident throughout the Storehouse, from The Gilroy bar and entertainment space to recreations of his most famous animals roaming the floors.

The Arrol Suite will also be transformed into The Gilroy, featuring a reimagining of John Gilroy’s archived artworks by some of Ireland’s brightest creatives, a collective of Irish artists led by Cyan Ryan. The snake will be a central feature of Gilroy’s legacy being centre stage in the Guinness Storehouse this St Patrick’s Weekend.

From March 14th -18th, the Home of Guinness will open its doors to visitors from all over the world to come and enjoy a taste of world class, modern Irish sociability and culture featuring performances from over 100 artists.

This year’s line-up of entertainment is bigger than ever and encapsulates the electric and modern sounds of traditional Irish music today. Five headline acts, one performing each day, will take the stage in a dedicated entertainment space, The Gilroy, where visitors can listen to incredible music, taste beautiful pints of Guinness and Guinness 0.0, and view a gallery of a modern interpretations of famous John Gilroy artworks.
